A Microsoft report, ‘AI Diffusion Report’, shows that Spaniards rank second in Europe, behind only France, in smart assistant adoption.

Since artificial intelligence entered the public debate, whether due to fears or hopes, its adoption has continued to grow worldwide. Some chatbots, such as ChatGPT and Gemini, continue to grow in user base, reaching hundreds of millions of users weekly.
But a report from Microsoft AI Diffusion Data Source collects data on user behavior in Spain that is more striking than it appears.
In its analysis, it collects data on European and international countries where the adoption of artificial intelligence continues to increase. But in Spain, it is even greater than we realize.
The study suggests that Spain is among the leading European countries in the use of intelligent assistants. The United Arab Emirates has adopted these tools the most, with 59.4%. However, after Singapore, Norway, Ireland, and France, Spain ranks sixth globally at 39.7%.
In fact, Spain surpasses other countries such as the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and the United States, among many others. The analysis also highlighted that its use occurs across education, healthcare, and finance, and that different tools are increasingly being employed.
The most notable overall finding of the Microsoft report is that AI adoption has surpassed 1.2 billion users worldwide. This advance has occurred in just three years, marking one of the most significant leaps in technology history. In fact, some countries are reportedly home to the most widely used chatbots, from the United States, with OpenAI-ChatGPT, to China, with DeepSeek.
AI as a transformation for Spain
Miriam Cordero, Chief Revenue Officer (CRO) at edtech ODILO, a company that assists large companies in skills improvement processes, says that they use AI “to be more efficient and as the technological basis for our platform.” “Spain has the opportunity and responsibility to raise its position in the global economy if it adopts AI with a strategic vision and backs it up with a decisive investment in talent and advanced training programs,” she says.
“We also have a competitive advantage: both companies and citizens are increasingly familiar with the use of AI-based solutions, which creates an ecosystem conducive to accelerating innovation. Employees and citizens need continuous training to remain relevant, and learning how to leverage AI is one of the essential pillars,” she emphasizes.
A similar idea is advocated by Tokiota, Microsoft’s official partner in Spain. Alberto Jusdado, Head of Consulting at Tokiota, emphasizes that “for this transformation to be profound, it is necessary to integrate AI structurally into the strategy, processes, and culture of organizations. If Spain continues to advance along this dual path, maximizing efficiency while maturing its capacity to build revenue-oriented solutions, it will be able to consolidate a stronger and more relevant position in the global economy driven by artificial intelligence,“ he emphasized.
And they don’t stop there, as they believe it is a tool that can also boost traditional sectors, ”optimizing processes, accelerating critical tasks, and enabling new ways of operating.” “Although this potential is evident, adoption remains uneven: while efficiency-oriented cases are already showing clear progress, many more ambitious projects, especially those seeking to generate revenue or competitive advantages, remain in pilot phases with no real impact,” he added.
Elena Maran, Chief AI Risk Officer and Head of Modulos in Spain at the Swiss technology company, also explains why they decided to deploy their governance platform in Spain. “Spanish companies that adopt AI with solid governance will be able to accelerate innovation without compromising their security, turning regulation into a competitive advantage,” she reasons.
Diego Martínez, Managing Director AI, Data & Intelligent Automation at VASS, explains that in Spain “we have an exciting situation: strategic sectors for the global economy, such as banking, tourism, energy, and public administration, where the application of AI can generate a clear, immediate, and measurable impact.”
“Solutions based on artificial intelligence act as a multiplier, accelerating the digital transformation of traditional sectors, improving their international competitiveness, and helping to strengthen their role within the Spanish economy,” he emphasizes.
