The new compass of leadership: empathy, innovation, and flexibility in the digital age.

Categories:

  • The digital transformation of companies is redefining the basic skills that all leadership profiles must have.
  • Skills such as emotional intelligence and resilience are now more highly valued than ever for their role in creating a constructive work environment.
  • The ability to innovate and solve complex problems has become another differentiating factor in retaining and growing internal talent.

Madrid, March 28, 2025. The current digital transformation underway in Spain’s business sector is driving the introduction of new working models and increasing labor market volatility. According to Aon data, 30% of Spaniards plan to change jobs in 2025.

Among the factors taken into account for job satisfaction, the relationship with management is one of the most decisive: 78% of Spaniards say that a bad boss is a sufficient reason to leave their job, according to the latest ‘Infoempleo Adecco Report: Job Supply and Demand in Spain’.

In this regard, ODILO, a Spanish edtech company specializing in the creation of Unlimited Learning Ecosystems, has surveyed its corporate users to identify the six key skills that employees value most on their path to becoming managers:

  • Analytical thinking and innovation: The ability to critically analyze information and manage large volumes of data is one of the most valued skills in today’s environment. This skill allows you to anticipate trends, propose innovative solutions, and develop creative strategies that help you stand out from the competition.
  • Emotional intelligence: Managing one’s own emotions and understanding the team’s concerns are key to fostering a positive work environment. In this sense, leaders must cultivate their emotional intelligence to resolve conflicts, handle stress and crises, and promote healthy, productive work dynamics grounded in trust and interpersonal respect.
  • Resilience, stress tolerance, and flexibility: Knowing how to adapt effectively to change and recover quickly from setbacks is essential in a constantly changing work environment. Facing corporate challenges with an open and flexible mindset helps maintain team motivation and performance, while strengthening internal culture and promoting stability and growth.
  • Complex problem-solving: Today’s challenges require agile and strategic responses. That’s why it’s essential to have leaders who can approach problems from different perspectives, assess all variables, and work collaboratively. These skills enable them to navigate uncertain environments with confidence and find effective short- and long-term solutions.
  • Leadership and social influence: A good leader not only leads, but also inspires and motivates. In an increasingly hybrid and digital environment, where remote work and virtual communication are the norm, fostering team cohesion is crucial. Social influence involves actively listening, considering each member’s contributions, and fostering a collaborative environment where everyone feels committed to the company’s vision.
  • Digital know-how: In a highly digitized society, mastery of technological tools is an essential requirement for any management profile. From artificial intelligence to data analysis, leaders must stay up to date on the latest innovations to optimize processes, improve decision-making, and enhance the capabilities of internal talent. In addition, their ability to adapt to new platforms and understand their impact on the business will be key to ensuring the organization’s competitiveness.

“Beyond technical skills, good leadership encompasses other issues related to the ability to inspire and guide teams. This is especially true in a work environment as volatile as the one we live in today. Emotional intelligence, resilience, and the capacity for innovation are the foundations for building a solid and adaptable corporate culture and developing leadership capable of facing any future challenge,” says Iván López, VP of Global Corporate Sales at ODILO.
