40% of Madrid schools rely on ‘MadREAD without limits’ to promote unlimited learning among students

  • More than 900 public schools in the Community of Madrid have already joined this initiative aimed at students in 4th, 5th and 6th grade of primary school, ESO, Baccalaureate, Basic Vocational Training and Educamadrid users.
  •  It is an unlimited learning ecosystem that allows teachers to improve the literacy skills of their students through the creation of reading plans and reading clubs, as well as monitoring the evolution of each student, among other issues.
  • ODILO, a Spanish EdTech that facilitates the creation of a customized unlimited learning ecosystem for all types of organizations, is the company behind this pioneering project.

Madrid, 14 February 2023.- The percentage of readers in the Community of Madrid has increased to 97.6%, which is five tenths more than the latest available data from 2020, as reflected in the recently published report ‘Study of Reading Habits and Book Purchasing in the Community of Madrid 2022’. Books are preferred by residents of Madrid, with an increase in the rise of audiobooks and the use of new media.

With the aim of strengthening these good practices and promoting learning among young people, 40% of public schools in the Madrid region, including more than 900 schools, have joined ‘MadREAD without limits’, a project that provides them with a customized ecosystem where they can offer any kind of educational resource or learning experience integrated on a single application. Students, teachers and families have access to their own personalized ecosystem with more than 57,300 resources including titles and experiences from more than 6,300 of the best providers of ebooks, courses, podcasts, videos, magazines, press, educational resources, summaries, films and educational apps. The ecosystem is a “Netflix/Spotify” style platform, custom configured and designed to intelligently select and put at a click away the best educational content and learning experiences among millions of options to suit the preferences and needs of each institution and each user.

Aimed at students in 4th, 5th and 6th grade of primary school, ESO, Bachillerato, Basic Vocational Training and Educamadrid users, this ecosystem adapts to the pedagogical methodologies of each school and teacher. As part of the project, support actions are also carried out for the teaching community through more than 100 pedagogical consultancies or training webinars in which more than 1,500 teachers have already participated. In addition, the platform allows online and offline access, making it easier for young people in Madrid to continue learning outside the classroom. It also promotes inclusive learning through features such as text-speech and dyslexia sources.

ODILO, the Spanish EdTech that enables organizations of all kinds to create an unlimited learning ecosystem tailored to their needs, is the company behind this innovative solution that also enables the creation of learning programs and experiences. The platform’s features offer an unlimited learning experience to students and their families, as well as a wide range of possibilities for teachers to dynamize their classes.

The content is structured by educational stages and levels to facilitate students’ access to the most appropriate titles for each age group. The high capacity for personalization and content suggestions according to individual interests increase interest in learning. In short, this is a new way of conceiving education that promotes unlimited learning adapted to each student.

According to María Teresa Moreno, History and Geography teacher at IES José Saramago in Majadahonda (Madrid), where this initiative has been implemented, “thanks to ‘MadREAD without limits’ I have been able to create personalized plans for my students and motivate them to continue learning outside the classroom“. For her part, Mercedes Marín García, Director General of Bilingualism and Education of the Community of Madrid, emphasizes that “thanks to this ecosystem, students and teachers can read and learn from anywhere and at any time“.

Energize classes and motivate students

Thanks to ‘MadREAD without limits’, teachers can create personalized reading plans for each of their students. If they prefer not to start from scratch, they also have access to basic plan templates, designed by ODILO’s literacy experts, which can be adapted to their personal teaching methodology.

The platform makes use of Business Intelligence that continuously measures the entire learning process of the student, which facilitates evidence based data on the educational results of any content and methodology. In addition, teachers can monitor student progress through different exercises that can be included as part of the reading: self-correcting questions in which the student must choose the correct option among several others; true or false questions and even open questions that invite the student to reflect. Different evaluation strategies facilitate the teacher’s work when grading the students’ performance.

Another way to enrich the learning process is the gamification with which ‘MadREAD without limits’ has been conceived, which includes a ranking of users, awards and achievements that are delivered as the student progresses in their learning, as well as a system of interactive challenges that encourages the development of the student’s skills and that they can complete from home with the help of their family members.

In addition, it is a collaborative initiative.  Through the creation of reading clubs, students and teachers can share their opinions and experiences regarding different resources. The exchange of good practices and learning methodologies is also possible through the interaction of teachers and students from different schools, a feature that greatly enhances perspective in learning.

The initiative arose to promote education in lockdown

The outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic and the consequent lockdown of the school-age population prompted the creation of ‘MadREAD without limits’ in 2020. The Ministry of Education, Universities, Science and Spokesperson of Madrid found ODILO to be a perfect ally in a digital project that would facilitate learning for teachers and students and their families.

In just two short years of life, this unlimited learning ecosystem has registered 2.5+ million hours of learning, 30% of which are outside school hours, in line with its objective of encouraging young people to learn beyond the classroom. The project also enables the development of language skills in other languages; in fact, 1 in 4 resources consumed are in languages other than Spanish.

Over the last year, the creation of new reading plans has increased by 200%, from 4,500 plans in 2021 to 16,000 plans in 2022. Likewise, the number of students benefiting from these plans has also increased by more than 105%, reaching 35,000 students during the past year compared to 17,000 two years ago.
